AntiqueForSale have an ever increasing number of antiques and fine art dealers and they are located countrywide. Each one of our sellers has their own story to tell and wisdom to impart, as well as beautiful products to sell.
Here at AntiqueForSale we are growing a community, we want to know our dealers and what affects their individual business, so that we might better meet their needs. We hope to be part of their continued success.
With this in mind we are starting an ‘In Focus’ section within our blog so we might all get to know each other a bit better and high-light the wonderful products available online.
Last week I had the privilege of speaking to Glynn from Jasper Jacks, who had agreed to be my guinea pig for writing this section of the blog.
Their business is made up of three people, Glynn, his wife Gail and mother-in-law Dianne and between them they have over 50 years worth of experience in antiques. Glynn, like myself, is not originally from an antiques background, but web and graphics which you can see demonstrated in the design of their own site, which is beautifully put together - you can find the link on their dealer’s page.
They specialise in French antiques and make regular trips to France to buy the stunning examples seen online.
So after twelve years of buying antiques in France I asked if he was fluent in French. But he informed me he left that all in the capable hands of Dianne, who has over 30 years experience, and his wife Gail.
Jasper Jacks is clearly a tight knit family business with customer satisfaction at its core. It is clear from speaking to them that they are very passionate and motivated about selling quality items and growing the Jasper Jacks brand.
Below are a few of the questions I asked them:
How did you come to be working in the Antiques industry?
We started buying antique furniture and decorative items for ourselves. Friends asked if we could source items for them and it took off from there. Now we have a family business selling items worldwide.
What, in your opinion, is the best thing about working in Antiques?
We love our jobs - travelling to France to track down unique items and bring them home to restore them to their former glory. And we get to meet some wonderful people on the way.
What is, has been, your favourite antique that you have sold or owned?
Perhaps unsurprisingly an 18th Century French Louis XVI antique mirror!
What makes your business unique? People, products, approach to business etc.
We’re a family business and we do everything ourselves except deliveries. Buying, selling, restoration, website, administration… We’re passionate about what we do and getting it right is important to us.
What, in your opinion is the biggest threat to your business?
The same as for all small businesses in the UK, excessive business taxation and red tape
What can we expect from you in the future?
More of the same! Beautiful, quality pieces at competitive prices.
