An 17th Century Carved Oak Housekeepers or Hall Cupboard
This is real rarity, the cupboard is dated 1637 it is a very heavy piece, the cupboard stands on large globe feet and has a large outward sweeping moulded plinth, this matches the cornice at the top.
The carved panels on the door represent the tree of life with mythical serpent like creatures, the quality of the carving is very crisp and there is no damage to it, the door hinges and handle seem to be original blacksmith made in iron but the door lock has been altered
The single carved door encloses a row of wooden coat pegs and supports for a central shelf, this is a very heavy piece it does not dismantle otherwise it is in very good condition for its age
The cupboard stands 71” high; it is 19” deep and 45” wide overall.
