THOMAS BRIDGE, LONDON c1690A fine William and Mary walnut and marquetry longcase clock with excellent colouring and patination.The case of oak veneered with walnut with panels of floral marquetry around lenticle to the trunk door. The hood with marquetry door , barleytwist columns with gilded capitals and sound fret above. The marquetry base supported by bun feet.The 11 inch square dial with silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and cherub and foliage spandrels to corners. Finely matted centre with ringed winding holes and day of month aperture surrounded by superbly executed triple crown engraving. Signed Thos. Bridge Londini Fecit around 6 oclock on chapter ringThe eight day movement with five fine knopped and finned pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a bell via an inside countwheel. A typically early brass bob pendulum and brass cased weights complete the clock.Thomas Bridge was a well regarded maker working in London at the end of the 17th century. A longcase clock by Bridge was listed a part of the Wetherfield collection.Height 6ft 8inches/203cm
