About Banks of London, 440 & 441 Strand

Robert Banks, or Bancks, was born in the United Kingdom in the 18th century brother of Anthony Oldiss Bancks.

His profession as a mathematical instrument maker, optician and optical instrument maker traded from the Strand in London, England; initially from 440 Strand from 1795 - 1804 then later from 441 between 1805 and 1830.

The quality of Banks' work was recognised affording the firm the privilege of supplying the then Prince of Wales, George IV and the grant to engrave this upon their instruments.
