Original George III Antique Brass Trivet on Iron Frame.
Originally these were made to sit directly in the fire to support Cooking Vessels and Kettles above the fire, earlier examples had three feet to maintain stability. Later in the 19th century, they aquired a 4th foot and sat in the hearth and were used to rest the kettle, etc,
This Trivet is a very nice late C18th example, with Hand Cut Fretwork detail to the Brass top. Hand Forged Iron Leg supports beneath and a Mahogany handle.
The Stand can be used Freestanding, or can be attached to a Fender, using the two hookd at the front. The Mahogany handle is Original and the piece is as sturdy today as when made.
In Very Good Condition, there is a split down the length of the handle due to use and shrinkage, where it has come into contact with hot pans and kettles from the fire, but this all part of it's 240 Year Old history and charm.
